monkey bars

Dundee Rep Community Company present Monkey Bars by Chris Goode
Dundee Rep Theatre / Thu 5 - Fri 6 July 2018

The Community Company are a brilliantly diverse mix of people from all walks of life, of all ages and of all abilities. What first drew me towards this play was the honesty with which the children spoke, their unfiltered, unguarded insights about life and the world in which we live. By placing these children’s words in to the mouths of adults, do we take what they have to say more seriously? As one child says in the introduction to the script, “it’s nice to have someone be interested really.” And so through our rehearsals we have talked and listened and debated, we have questioned and empathised and laughed, all the while thinking about how to give these words weight, how to convey the truth, wit, intelligence and heartbreak of these remarkable stories.

one million tiny plays about britain

Dundee Rep Community Company present One Million Tiny Plays About Britain by Craig Taylor
Dundee Rep Theatre / Thu 29 - Fri 30 June 2017

What we loved most when we first read One Million Tiny Plays About Britain was how well the range of pieces fitted with the make-up of the company, with these tiny plays offering a glimpse in to the triumphs, prejudices, heartbreaks and joys of contemporary life. The Company has really thrived from the intricacies of staging a night of short plays and the challenge of playing multiple characters in a small studio setting with the actors and audience side-by-side.

THE Crucible

Between October 2005 and April 2006, I worked as one of the first artists employed by National Theatre of Scotland’s Learn Department. As part of my role, I worked as the Community Director on the Livingston version of The Crucible, planning and leading all rehearsals as well as regularly attending TAG's professional rehearsals at the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow. This co-production saw a professional cast team up with five different community casts in five separate locations across Scotland, with professional actors performing The Crucible to local audiences alongside local people. The production was directed by Guy Hollands, assisted by Community Directors who rehearsed with the community cast members in their own areas prior to production week. The Livingston production, on which I was the Community Director, launched the tour.
